Veloy Vigil

Veloy Vigil (1931-1997) was a celebrated Southwest painter of Pueblo and Hispanic descent. Born in Denver during the Depression, he served in the Marine Corps and studied at the Denver Art Academy and the Colorado Institute of Art on the GI Bill before earning the Winslow Homer Award. He settled in Taos, opened his own gallery, and became known for a bright, flowing, abstract-impressionist style that influenced a generation of Southwest artists. With his sons Michael and David, he also produced acclaimed limited-edition prints.
