Greg Standridge

Greg Standridge is a mixed-media artist whose primary medium is wood veneer, though he also creates in pen and ink and digital prints. His work is shaped by the traditions of European marquetry and the bold aesthetics of Japanese woodblock prints. Each piece begins as a digital design before Greg carefully hand-cuts 1/42” dyed veneer wood with a scroll saw and X-Acto knife—never a computer or laser. The pieces are then assembled like a puzzle, trimmed, sanded, and finished into vibrant, one-of-a-kind works of art.

His imagery spans whimsical mushroom ladies, Choctaw legends such as Stickball Players, Deer Women, and Corn Women, as well as cardinals, hummingbirds, turtles, buffalo, rabbits, butterflies, lizards, bees, horned toads, and scissortails. He works with an extensive palette of veneers including Ash, Birch, Cerejeira, Cumara, Etimoe, Eucalyptus, Imbuya, Dyed Koto, Lacewood, Madrone, Nutmeg, Oak, Paldra, Sapale, Spruce, Sycamore, Walnut, and Zircote.

Greg’s love for wood began in his father’s shop, where as a child he sorted, sanded, and learned to appreciate the beauty of the material. Surrounded by music, art, and the grain of countless woods, he developed the skills and passion that would later fuel his artistic career. Influenced by masters such as Van Gogh, Escher, and Matisse, Greg transforms his original drawings into striking wood marquetry inlay art—each piece a saw-dusted vision that balances craft, imagination, and storytelling.

Several works from his Yes I Can Roger show remain available, each one a testament to his dedication to detail and his lifelong bond with wood as both medium and muse.
