Rene Labrado is an award-winning artist, born in Texas, raised in the Southwest, and now living in Redondo Beach, California with his wife Claire. An artist’s work, like his personality, develops as circumstances and experience of early life become assimilated into material to be drawn upon. Such an artist is Rene Labrado. Inspiration for his watercolors come from his early impressions of and appreciation for the architecture and landscapes of the Southwest. However, Rene is equally comfortable interpreting the ethereal work of koi swimming along water lilies as he is depicting the beauty of thick-walled adobes in Santa Fe or Taos.

Rene’s watercolors capture the essential freshness and energy of his subjects and hold them for the viewer’s eye. Space, color, and image are the elements that Labrado respects. His personal integrity, as well as his craftsmanship as a watercolorist, is demonstrated with a consummate balance of elements. He understands the colors and light of the Southwest.
